KUCHING, 12 September: A 37-year-old man was arrested by the police after allegedly stealing cables at High Street of Brother Haji Muhammad Salahuddin here yesterday.
Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect was detained by a police team from Kuching District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) in Bintawa Ulu village area at about 5.40pm.
According to him, the arrest was following a police report made on the same day regarding an incident of individual cable theft as depicted in a 25-second video footage posted on social media.
"Results of the investigation revealed that the actual incident occurred on Thursday at about 8.30 am, when the suspect allegedly damaged the cable using a hammer unit.
"Chamakan further found the suspect had five previous criminal records, while an initial urine test filter found the man to be drug positive", he said in a statement today.
He said the case was investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to two years or fine or both.
