BETONG, Sept 25: Stadium Taha Ariffin is undergoing upgrades to its turf, changing rooms and spectator seating, with the improvement works expected to be completed by October this year.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said the works were currently progressing, with safety also being prioritised to ensure the stadium could accommodate large crowds comfortably and securely.

“We are currently carrying out renovations to the changing rooms and other facilities, including the seats.

“Next is how we can ensure people can enter and exit safely because when the stadium is full, there are many emergency requirements and other aspects that need to be taken into consideration,” he said when met during the Sarawakku Sayang (SKS) Betong programme here today, as reported by TVS.

He said the safety measures needed to comply with the requirements and standards set by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Bomba) and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

Gerald said the improvements would enhance not only the stadium’s readiness for football matches, but also the safety and condition of its overall facilities.

“We do not want people to have to climb over fences and such if something happens. That is not safe.

“Therefore, these improvements will be carried out in stages, and we are also conducting a safety audit so that the stadium can be used with a higher level of safety,” he said. — DayakDaily
