KUCHING, Sept 30: Taiyo Yuden’s Sarawak operations are entering a fourth phase of expansion, with about RM600 million set to be reinvested in the State.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the reinvestment is among the commitments expected to contribute to Sarawak’s approved investment performance for 2026.
“We have already engaged with several companies that have made commitments.
“There are new investments and reinvestments, meaning these companies have already invested and are operating here, and will be adding to their investments, such as Taiyo Yuden,” he said when met by the media after launching the MINTRED Organisational Anti-Corruption Strategy (OACS) in conjunction with the MINTRED Integrity and Innovation Day 2026 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED), said RM11.2 billion in approved investments had been recorded in the primary, manufacturing and services sectors in the first half of 2026.
According to a TVS report, he said he could not yet provide a target for Sarawak’s total approved investments for the whole of 2026.
The Taiyo Yuden reinvestment comes as Sarawak continues to attract both new investments and expansion commitments from companies already operating in the State.
For the record, Sarawak attracted RM116.8 billion in approved investments between 2021 and 2025, involving the manufacturing, services and primary sectors.
In 2025 alone, Sarawak received more than RM16 billion in investments, with the services and manufacturing sectors recording the largest shares. — DayakDaily
