KUCHING, Apr 7: Tanjong Datu’s coastal road is set to be illuminated under a RM12.6 million street lighting project, one of the first tangible upgrades under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency’s (GKCDA) efforts to enhance infrastructure and connectivity in Lundu.
The project forms part of a wider package of 218 development initiatives across the Opar and Tanjong Datu constituencies, with a combined allocation exceeding RM304.8 million. Of these, 38 projects in Tanjong Datu account for RM154.8 million.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies) Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi led a monitoring visit, accompanied by Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, and GKCDA Special Administrative Officer Ik Pahon Joyik.
“All regional development projects are targeted for completion before 2029, in line with Sarawak’s development agenda leading up to 2030,” he said.
Azizul said the street lighting, currently ahead of schedule, will improve road safety and support local businesses by extending operating hours along the coastal route.
Other projects inspected include the RM2 million upgrade of Lundu Town Square and multipurpose halls in Kampung Sembawang and Kampung Pasir Tengah. The RM6.15 million Kampung Sebako 2 Bridge is also expected to improve access to agricultural areas and surrounding villages.
Billy noted that enhanced infrastructure such as street lighting and bridges is vital for the movement of goods and services, particularly in agriculture. — DayakDaily
