KUCHING, May 5: A 32-year-old teacher pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to two charges of committing sexual offences against two 13-year-old male students at his apartment.
The accused claimed trial to the charges framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16 of the same Act.
The offence carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction, while Section 16 provides for an additional jail term of up to five years and two strokes of the cane.
According to the charge sheets, the alleged offences took place at about 3pm on April 25, 2026, at a residential apartment unit in the city.
The accused is alleged to have touched the victims’ private parts and hugged them for sexual purposes.
Sessions Court judge Iris Awen Jon fixed June 18 for pre-trial case management and allowed the accused bail of RM10,000 with two local sureties.
The court also ordered him to surrender his passport and report to a police station on the first working day of every month until the disposal of the case.
It is understood that the teacher has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the proceedings.
The prosecution is led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Marvind Kaliyani, while the accused is represented by counsel Russel Lim. — DayakDaily
