Teacher dies after being struck by 4WD while crossing road in Sibu

SIBU (Feb 12): A 54-year-old teacher was killed after she was struck by a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle along Jalan Deshon here on Wednesday night.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said police received a report on the incident at about 8pm.

“The victim sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead on site by medical personnel from Sibu Hospital,” he said in a statement.

The victim, identified as Rozita Saibi, was a teacher at SMK Kampung Nangka.

Initial investigations revealed that she was crossing the road to get to her husband’s vehicle, which was parked on the opposite side, when she was hit by a Toyota Hilux travelling from Jalan Ling Khai Cheng towards Sibu Jaya.

Prior to the accident, she had delivered medication to her 19-year-old daughter at Kolej Vokasional Sibu.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” said Zulkipli.
