Teen hurt after being struck by 4WD at Sibu school crossing

SIBU (March 13): A 16-year-old student was injured after being hit by a four-wheel-drive vehicle while crossing the road in front of SMK Tung Hua along Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg here.

Acting Sibu District Police Chief Boniface Bajai said the accident was reported at about 12.50pm.

“Preliminary investigations found that the accident involved a Toyota Hilux and a pedestrian.

“The victim, a 16-year-old student, was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing when he was struck by the vehicle,” he said in a statement.

Boniface added that the student sustained injuries to the head and body and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police have opened an investigation paper, with the case being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (LN 166/56).

He also reminded road users to always obey traffic rules and exercise caution to prevent such incidents.
