Teen pleads guilty to rape of 14-year-old girlfriend in Kuching

KUCHING (Dec 23): A teenager pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here to two rape charges involving his 14-year-old girlfriend.

The 19-year-old was charged with two counts under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code before Judge Iris Awen Jon, with each charge relating to the same offence committed on different dates and locations.

The Section carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

The court fixed Jan 22 for tendering of social report and sentencing, and also granted the accused bail of RM10,000, with his parents as sureties.

The offences occurred at two separate villages here at night, in March and July.

According to the facts of the case, the victim’s mother took her to a clinic for a medical check-up.

A doctor later confirmed the victim was 21 weeks and four days pregnant.

The mother then lodged a police report, which led to the arrest of the accused.

Police investigations found the testimonies of the victim and the accused were consistent, with the victim admitting to having sexual intercourse with only the accused, and the accused admitting to committing the act.

Deputy public prosecutor Adriana Maisarah Mohd Farid appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
