KUCHING, Apr 7: Kampung Terbat in Serian is poised to emerge as a new eco-tourism attraction with the planned development of the Terbat Tagang Recreation Centre, an initiative expected to draw visitors with its natural river setting and community-led conservation efforts.

In a statement, Serian District Council (SDC) chairman Dato Peter Minos said that Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development and Kedup assemblyman Datuk Martin Ben initiated and planned the project, with financing provided by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), while SDC is responsible for implementation.

“The new project will be located around the tagang area and will feature chalets for rental, a baruk, canteen, and recreational facilities. Surrounded by mountains, forests, a large river and a scenic village, the centre will offer a place for outdoor fun and relaxation,” he said.

He added that SDC is currently engaging consultants and various agencies for the necessary approvals and hopes that the processes will be completed by the end of this year, with construction expected to begin in early 2027.

“Like the nearby Silabur Cave project, the Terbat Tagang Recreation Centre is expected to become a magnet for visitors and tourists—a real tourism boost for Serian,” he said. — DayakDaily
