MUKAH, 3 Oct: The 4.32 kilometre long Rassau Road/Bungan Besar project which is a missing link in Sibu-Dalat road network has the potential to shorten travel time between the two areas from almost three hours to about an hour.

Sarawak's Minister of Women, Children and Community Welfare Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said that the RM68 million project has not yet been approved and should be considered to complete the network.

"At present, the distance between Sibu and Dalat is about 200 kilometers with a journey time of about two hours and 45 minutes.

"If this new road network can be fully completed, the journey time is expected to be shortened to only about an hour", he said.

He said this while addressing the Sarawak My Dear 2026 Expedition Program here today.

The programme was inaugurated by the Sarawak Prime Minister, Tan Sri's grandfather Johari Tun Openg.

According to Fatimah, five projects are proposed for the development of Sibu-Dalat road network with a total distance of about 77 kilometers.

"Of that total, four projects have been approved, with three projects still in the planning stages while one project has been completed", he said.

However, he said that there is still a gap in the lineup, which is the Rassau Road/Great Flower Project that needs to be completed to ensure that the network is fully functional.

"The Rassau Road/Bungan Besar project should be given attention and considered for approval as its completion will benefit the population, facilitate movement and launch freight transport and economic activities between Sibu, Dalat and surrounding areas", he said.
