JULU, 1 Oct: Residents of Awit House, Nanga Mujok here are breathing a sigh of relief as the settlement involving 29 houses receive 24-hour electricity supply via connection to Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) grid.

Member of the National Assembly (ADUN) Meluan, Dato Rolland Duat Jubin said that this was announced by SEB Sarikei last week and is a positive development for rural residents in the area.

He said, Awit House is among the beneficiaries through the implementation of Outdoor Electricity Supply (RES) Final Reach Phase Project for Ulu Kanowit Cluster, Julau.

"Last August, the Japok House in Tatai Engkuman, Nanga Mujok which has 14 households also received 24-hour electricity supply through the same project.

"These developments prove that efforts to expand the electricity supply network to DUN Mekuan area continue to be given attention", he said when contacted today.

Meanwhile, Rolland hopes that the installation of meters for Nanga Ensiring Cluster can be accelerated as the project is expected to benefit more than 161 households in several long houses.

At the same time, he also monitored the development of RES project from Nanga Meluan to Ulu Mujok which is still facing delays, especially regarding service line connectivity work.

"I was informed that the tender process should be resumed due to a number of issues which require assessment and coordination before work can continue", he explained.

He appreciated SEB, especially SEB Sarikei and the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunications (MUT) for their continuous efforts to expand electricity facilities, besides hoping that projects which are still unfinished can be accelerated for the benefit of rural people in his neighbourhood. - TVS
