KUCHING: Sarawak’s capital has once again clinched the title of Malaysia’s most affordable tourist destination, according to digital travel platform Agoda.

The platform’s latest ranking of budget-friendly destinations revealed that Kuching boasts the country’s most competitive room rates from August to September.

“Based on booking data from June 15 to July 7, 2024, Kuching is Malaysia’s most affordable tourist destination, with an average room rate of RM250,” Agoda said in a statement.“The

state capital has maintained its position as the cheapest destination, having also topped the rankings in April.”

While Kuching held the crown locally, it ranked third in a broader comparison of nine Asian markets from August 15 to September 30. Thailand’s Hat Yai and Indonesia’s Yogyakarta claimed the top two spots.

Other affordable destinations in the region included Siargao Island in the Philippines, Dalat in Vietnam, Narita in Japan, Goa in India, Taichung in Taiwan, and Busan in South Korea.

Agoda’s country director for Malaysia and Brunei, Fabian Teja, said the ranking aimed to help travellers make informed decisions and enjoy affordable vacations.

“As travellers look to recharge before the year-end, we hope this list encourages more people to explore new destinations without breaking the bank,” he said.
