LAWAS, 8 Oct: The Sarawak government has identified a line for the construction of Sundar Bridge which will connect residents across the river with Pekan Sundar and surrounding villages.

Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that the project is in line with the rapid development plans for Sundar area including construction of Baharu Lawas Airport, Sarawak North Coast Highway (NCH) and other development projects.

According to him, the implementation of the project has the potential to boost economic activity and attract investment to Lawas district especially in Sundar.

"Under the Malaysia Plan, we are implementing a bridge project connecting villages across Sundar to Pekan Sundar.

"The network has been identified in line with our plan to connect the Punang area, passing through New Old Airport directly to Awat-Awat, connecting the existing roads", he said.

He said this during a work visit to the multi-purpose hall construction site in Kampung Tanjung Aru, on Wednesday.

Awang Tengah explained, in addition to NCH, implementation of bridge, road and other public facilities projects will enhance the development potential of Sundar Week, especially in agriculture, farming and aquaculture sectors.

During the visit, he was also friendly with the residents and shared information about planned development programs in the area.
