SIBU, Sept. 21: A workers' home in Lounge 13B, the Beautiful Land East here, was almost completely destroyed in a fire last night.
According to the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sarawak's Operations Movement Centre (PGO), it received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.13 pm before a team from Sungai Merah Bomba and Rescue Hall (BBP) arrived on site around 8.29 pm.
"On arrival, firefighters found that the fire involved a workers' home about 60 by 20 feet wide located on the side of a hill.
"The fire is estimated to have destroyed about 98 percent of the structure", the statement said.
Operations Commander of the I PBK Imran Ahmad instructed members to wear Full Operation Clothes and use Breathing Device (BA) before extinguishing work is carried out.
A water stream is presented from the mill using about 300 feet of hose, a breeching and two nozzles placed on both the left and right sides of the building. The water supply was obtained from the nearby pump chopper.
The team is also conducting overhaul work to ensure no more fuel or sources could cause recurring fires.
The operation was accompanied by 13 members of the Red River BBP using an FRT, a CFRT and an EMRS before operations were terminated after the fire was confirmed to have been completely extinguished.
