MIRI (Jan 17): A Proton Wira driver was seriously injured, while a Proton Saga driver and his wife sustained minor injuries after the vehicles they were travelling in collided at a roundabout near Nam Leong Department Store in Senadin here late Friday evening.
According to a report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba Sarawak), a call was received at around 8.08pm, prompting the immediate dispatch of a team from the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station (Bomba Lutong) to the location, about eight kilometres away.
Operation commander Henry Jugah said in the report that upon arrival, firefighters found a 40-year-old man and his wife trapped inside their vehicle and requiring assistance to be extricated.
Another driver, a 22-year-old man, was also seriously injured and needed assistance to be carefully removed from his vehicle.
“The rescue operation commenced using a real time automation (RTA) power unit to extricate the trapped victims.
“Victims from both vehicles were successfully removed from the vehicles and handed over to healthcare personnel for treatment and further action,” he said.
Henry added that the team continued to carry out overhaul work at the accident scene and proceeded to clear debris and accident remnants from the road.
Once the situation was confirmed safe and under control, the team returned to the station at around 9.51pm.
