MIRI, April 16: Three local men and two foreign nationals have been arrested to assist investigations into a violent altercation that went viral on social media, believed to have occurred in the Bekenu area here.
Miri District Police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the arrests were made following intelligence and public information gathered after the incident circulated widely online.
“Several weapons believed to have been used in the altercation were also seized during the operation.
“All five suspects are currently remanded until April 19, 2026, at the Miri Central Police Station lock-up to facilitate investigations,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 15).
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.
Mohd Farhan emphasised that the police take the incident seriously, warning that acts of violence, rioting, and carrying dangerous weapons in public places are serious offences under the law.
The public has been advised to remain calm and avoid any actions that could escalate tensions or lead to public disorder.
