KUCHING, May 25: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has agreed to immediately restore its online transfer of vehicle ownership transaction service.
According to federal Transport Minister Anthony Loke, he had discussed with JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli regarding the suspension of the online vehicle ownership transfer service.
“JPJ has informed the Ministry of Transport (MOT) about instances of abuse and fraud within the ownership transfer system, which have resulted in liabilities that JPJ has had to bear. As such, JPJ needs to carry out urgent improvements to the online system.
“However, I have advised JPJ to ensure that the system enhancement works do not disrupt the daily affairs of ordinary users or cause significant congestion at JPJ offices,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He added that any future suspension of the system for enhancement works will only be carried out during the upcoming long weekend holiday period.
This followed reports that JPJ had suspended all online vehicle ownership transfer transactions effective today, which included its public portals, kiosks, and business partners such as MyEG and eAuto Sdn Bhd.
The department said this was due to complaints received about incidents whereby vehicle ownership was changed without the registered owners’ knowledge. — DayakDaily
