MIRI (Jan 22): Police in Lawas have arrested three individuals in connection with the theft of cables from the Trusan water treatment plant.
Lawas police chief DSP Liong Tindan said the suspects, locals aged between 20 and 31, were detained at their respective homes following a police report filed on Monday.
“Several rolls of cable, some of which had been burnt, were recovered. Losses are estimated at RM46,750,” he said in a statement.
Liong said all three suspects were tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“A background check also found one suspect with five prior records related to drugs and crime,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Separately, Liong informed that police detained a 58-year-old man for suspected drug abuse during an operation on Jalan Sundar.
He said while the suspect did not have any drugs in his possession at the time, he was later tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
