KUCHING, March 8: Political pundit Dato Peter Minos has issued a scathing assessment of United States (US) president Donald Trump, saying his policies and actions are pushing the United States toward self‑destruction.
In a statement released today, Minos outlined what he called Trump’s “reckless and dangerous” approach to both foreign and domestic affairs.
“Trump knows the US faces massive problems, yet he deliberately attacked Iran, only to receive a ‘bleeding nose’ in return,” he said.
He also highlighted the US national debt of USD 38 trillion as a growing concern, blaming Trump for failing to address it while maintaining over 750 military bases worldwide — which he described as “sucking USA high and dry”.
Minos criticised Trump for provoking long‑time allies, including Canada, whose businesses and trade are now reportedly shifting toward China, Europe and Australia.
He further condemned Trump’s alleged kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, creating friction with Brazil and other Latin American nations, effectively ending the Monroe Doctrine narrative.
On Asia, Minos warned that Trump’s support for Taiwan risks unnecessary conflict with China, potentially causing suffering similar to that seen in Ukraine.
He also slammed Trump’s pursuit of Greenland — angering European Union nations and prompting widespread protests in Denmark and Greenland asserting that “Greenland is not for sale”.
Domestically, Minos alleged Trump of employing “Nazi‑style” suppression against political opponents, sparking regret among Americans who voted for him.
Economic measures like tariffs and sanctions, Minos added, are backfiring rather than solving the nation’s problems.
“Trump’s actions and decisions are destroying the United States. Through his threats, aggressive behaviour, and harsh words, he is losing allies and friends.
“Whether he is mentally unstable or of diminished responsibility, Trump is a serious danger to the country. Once a global superpower, the US under his leadership has become a ‘declining empire’, now caught in a process of self‑defeat and self‑destruction,” Minos stressed. — DayakDaily
