KUCHING, March 24: The proposed construction of a new road linking Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa directly to the e-Mart roundabout is set to become a key development priority in Tupong.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Tupong assemblyman and chief political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the project is crucial to tackling traffic congestion, a major challenge for residents in the area.

“I have submitted the proposal and will continue to follow up to ensure the project is approved for the benefit of the community in N.6 Tupong,” he said during N6 Tupong Aidilfitri open house at Hikmah Hall, Petra Jaya, today.

He noted that although Jalan Matang is undergoing upgrades and widening, these efforts alone may not fully solve congestion unless traffic flows are diversified.

Fazzrudin also emphasised that development in Tupong will continue steadily to meet the evolving needs of residents.

“Development is carried out based on three-pronged approach, namely providing new facilities, monitoring existing amenities, and refurbishing older infrastructure,” he added.

Among those present at the event were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and Federal-State Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, and various department heads. — DayakDaily
