KUCHING, Dec 7: A search operation was launched after two five-year-old girls went missing in Kampung Pasir Pandak here yesterday (Dec 6).
According to a report by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the children, Humaira Qalesya Mohd Dir and NurAshafieyah Aisyah Abdul Nasri Asrafie, were last seen at 9am, heading to their grandmother’s house about 50 metres from their homes to play with their cousins.
By 11am, one of the girls’ father realised that both children were not at the play area. Early searches by the families around the village did not yield any results.
At 4pm, the search area was widened with the help of villagers, but still no trace of the girls was found.
A formal report was lodged with the police at 6pm, prompting a coordinated operation involving Bomba, the police, local residents and other agencies.
The operation, led by Mohd Nizam Bujang, involved nine fire personnel, one fire rescue truck, one Urvan vehicle, eight police officers, two K9 units and seven Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel.
“Search efforts focused on the area around the girls’ homes and nearby riverbanks.
“Despite extensive efforts, no new clues were found. The search was temporarily suspended at 11.40pm and is scheduled to resume the following day (today),” the report said.
Humaira Qalesya was last seen wearing a white hoodie and purple slippers, while NurAshafieyah Aisyah wore a black-and-white striped T-shirt, blue jeans and green slippers. – DayakDaily
