KUCHING (Dec 29): The Magistrates’ Court here on Monday sentenced a 28-year-old man to six months’ imprisonment for abusing amphetamine and methamphetamine eight years ago.
Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali handed down the sentence to Mohamad Alif Jamri after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
The provision stipulates a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine not exceeding RM5,000, and supervision for a period of not less than two years and not more than three years.
Mohamad Alif tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine at the Kuching District Police Narcotics Crime Investigation Department office at about 10.40am on July 23, 2017.
In a separate proceeding, 33-year-old Mohd Adi Suhaimi Mohd Asroy was also sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by Nursyaheeqa after pleading guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952.
Mohd Adi tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine at the same office at about 2.55pm on March 22, 2023.
The court ordered both accused to be placed under the supervision of the National Anti-Drugs Agency for a period of two years upon completion of their custodial sentences.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly prosecuted both cases, while Mohamad Alif and Mohd Adi were unrepresented.
