SARATOK (Jan 17): A two-storey semi-permanent house was completely destroyed in a fire at Kampung Hulu Sesang, Kabong, near here early Saturday morning.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, a distress call was received at 7.08am, prompting the deployment of a team from the Saratok Fire Station to the scene.
A team of firefighters from Saratok fire station was deployed to the scene.
“The fire involved a semi-permanent two-storey house measuring approximately 30 by 60 square feet, which was 100 per cent gutted by the fire.
“Firefighters conducted extinguishing operations using a 200-foot hose line with two nozzles, drawing water from the fire engine’s pump.
“The operation was assisted by the Kabong volunteer firefighters, which deployed a 100-foot hose line, a portable pump and utilised an open water source,” the statement said
“Overhaul works were carried out to ensure no remaining sources of ignition at the scene,” it added.
No injuries were reported, and all occupants managed to escape safely before the fire spread.
After confirming the area was secure, the firefighters returned to the station.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
