KUCHING (Feb 6): Police arrested four men and two women aged 18 to 35 on Wednesday at a Jalan Tun Jugah shophouse here, which was being used as a scam call centre.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the raiding team seized computers, mobile phones, SIM cards, and related devices believed to have been used to operate the scam call centre, which involved non-existent gaming transactions conducted online.

“Preliminary checks and analysis indicate that the syndicate operated as a call centre engaged in the dissemination of fraudulent online advertisements for non-existent games through the ‘Multi WhatsApp Warmer’ application, targeting local residents.

“All individuals detained are believed to have been working full-time in the operation,” he said in a statement.

Alexson said the case is being investigated under Section 420 and Section 120(b) of the Penal Code.

All six suspects were brought to the Magistrates’ Court here on Thursday where they were remanded for four days to assist with the investigation.
