TYT’s experience an asset to Sarawak and Malaysia: Fadillah

KUCHING: Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s broad experience in the nation’s administration has made him an asset for Sarawak and the country said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Fadillah expressed gratitude to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah for appointing Wan Junaidi as the eighth Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri.

“I believe the appointment was made based on his (Wan Junaidi) extensive experience, who had served in the Parliament as a minister for a long time in various ministries.

“In doing so, he has contributed significantly to the state and the nation as a whole. Therefore, I consider his experience as an asset for Sarawak, hence making him suitable as the TYT,” he said.

He was speaking to the reporters after officiating at the Al-Qamar Marapati silat court
and the Sarawak Silat Art Association (PSSSS) Tanjak Serinding Awan usage proclamation at Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS), Rumah Laksamana Muda, Jalan Rodway here today.

Fadillah said Wan Junaidi started his career as a police officer before becoming a lawyer and politician, has also authored many books.

Apart from his experience as MP and minister, he was Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat from 2008 to 2013 as well as actively involved in various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Sarawak.

“He is definitely the right person to assume the role of TYT as he knows Sarawak well – its people and their needs. In addition, he has a good relationship with both state and federal governments,” he said.

Yesterday, Wan Junaidi received his appointment letter from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara.

During the same ceremony, he was honoured with the nation’s highest accolade, the Darjah Kebesaran Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara (SSM), and bestowed with the title ‘Tun’.
