SPAOH (Dec 30): The RM248 million Bebuling Short Take-Off and Landing airport (STOLport) in Spaoh is expected to be completed by February 2026, marking a major milestone in Sarawak’s efforts to improve regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth in the Betong Division, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

In a statement following his working visit to the site today, Uggah said the project involves the construction of a main terminal building, airfield earthworks and pavement, as well as other supporting civil works.

“The airport will serve two important purposes — transporting passengers and facilitating cargo movement to markets beyond Spaoh,” he said.

Uggah noted that the STOLport is expected to spur economic activities in the region, supported by the planned development of a Collecting, Packaging and Processing Centre (CPPC) and an Agropark, in addition to strengthening eco-tourism offerings in the Betong Division.

During the site visit, Uggah was also briefed by Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) Betong Divisional engineer Jason Ng on the progress of several other key infrastructure projects. These include Coastal Package D4 involving the Sungai Krian Bridge, Coastal Package A5 for the highway to the Roban Interchange, and Coastal Package A4 covering Batang Saribas Bridge No 2.

Other projects briefed included the Sungai Paku Bridge, Jalan Jambu Krampak–Rantau Layang, and Jalan Ijok–Batu Pesok–Rantau Layang road projects.

Accompanying Uggah during the site visit were Betong MP Datuk Dr Richard Rapu, JKR Sarawak director Datu Dr Cassidy Morris, Political Secretary to the Premier Roseline Mapong, Betong District Officer Laga Kueh, Betong District Council secretary Lister Guwie, and other officials.
