KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 778 projects under the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), amounting to RM100 million, have been completed.

Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn revealed that revealed that 623 additional projects are currently ongoing, with a budget of RM148 million allocated from UNIFOR grants.

“These projects encompass new construction, maintenance, repairs, renovations, and the procurement of fittings, equipment, and religious instruments for various houses of worship,” Sagah said during a thanksgiving dinner held in conjunction with the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday celebration at Kota Samarahan Civic Centre on Thursday (Sept 5).

The UNIFOR grants are distributed annually to the main religious groups in Sarawak, including Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism, Baha’i, Sikhism, and Hinduism.

“UNIFOR was set up to ensure that all other religions in Sarawak will be looked after equally by the state government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he said.

Sagah stressed that leaders with strong spiritual foundations are better equipped to lead balanced lives and contribute positively to the country.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to support the current unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“We pledge our unwavering loyalty to Their Majesties, Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofia,” he said.

Sagah extended prayers for Sultan Ibrahim, asking for divine wisdom, compassion, and strength to lead the people through any challenges. He also encouraged religious leaders to continue their vital role in promoting unity, peace, and tolerance.

The event was attended by among others, Deputy Transport Minister (Road and Aviation) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, and Deputy State Secretary (Administration) Datuk Buckland Bangik.
