KUCHING, Nov 19: In recognition of the Indian Hindu community’s contributions, the Sarawak government, through Department of Premier of Sarawak’s Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), has granted and disbursed RM5.06 million towards the construction of infrastructure projects for their temples from 2017 to the present.
According to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, it is the intention of the Sarawak government to continue to provide adequate support to all vulnerable groups, regardless of race, religion, and background.
“And we are grateful to have calibre NGOs representing the Indian community, such as Malaysia Hindu Sangam Sarawak State Council and International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) which are committed to supplementing the State’s efforts,” Abang Johari said during the 2023 Deepavali Open House ceremony held today at the Hare Krishna Multipurpose Hall here.
The Premier’s speech text was read out by Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
“On behalf of the Sarawak government, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Sarawak Indian community for your years of support, as well as your various contributions to the advancement of our people, Sarawak, and nation,” he added.
The event was attended by various dignitaries and officials, including Transport Sarawak (MOTS) Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin and Sarawak Deputy State Secretary Datu Hii Chang Kee. — DayakDaily
