Pang (centre) hands over the Unifor grant to the Emmanuel Methodist Church representative.
BINTULU (Feb 14): The Emmanuel Methodist Church here will undergo upgrading works to enhance comfort and safety for its congregants, said Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang.
In a statement, Pang said he had personally visited the church to inspect its facilities and infrastructure to better understand areas requiring improvement in line with current needs.
“Recently, I officially handed over a grant from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) to Emmanuel Methodist Church to carry out upgrading works on its internal facilities,” he said.
The upgrading project will include the construction of a retaining wall, installation of a proper drainage system, erection of a multi-purpose fence, as well as resurfacing works for the church’s car park.
During his visit, Pang was also informed of a land subsidence issue affecting parts of the church grounds.
To address the matter, he expressed hope that the church management would promptly seek expert advice to ensure a comprehensive safety assessment of the affected land is carried out.
“This is to ensure that the church and its surrounding areas remain safe for occupancy,” he explained.
At the same time, Pang assured that his office would continue to assist the church in applying for additional funds if necessary to ensure the upgrading works proceed smoothly.
