KUCHING (Oct 31): The DAL HCM Sdn Bhd and DAL Keluarga Realty Sdn Bhd allocated the Health Waqf Fund to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) to support the university’s purchase of cancer diagnostic equipment.
According to a press release, the cheque presentation ceremony was held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia Petra Jaya here on Oct 25 and witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The ceremony underscored the mission to advance cancer care quality by funding advanced molecular testing equipment for Unimas’ Teaching Hospital and the Sarawak General Hospital.
The Health Waqf Fund is dedicated to enhancing the quality of cancer care in Sarawak by covering the high costs of advanced molecular testing equipment, which play a crucial role in early diagnosis and targeted treatment.
In today’s cancer treatments, especially those involving gene-targeted therapies, these tests play a vital role in customising treatment plans to increase patients’ survival rates and overall outcomes.
However, due to the high cost of these tests and insufficient current funding, many patients are forced to rely on conventional treatment options.
Managed with a vision of long-term cancer care support, the fund would also be an invaluable resource for Unimas medical students in enriching their education and research opportunities.
Future plans for the Health Waqf Fund include expanding its reach to support molecular testing for other serious diseases, thereby broadening its impact on healthcare services overall.
