MIRI (Nov 3): Members of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pujut branch have been told to be prepared for the upcoming state election as it will be one of the most challenging ever – one that would mark a decisive moment for the party and also the future of Sarawak.

Pujut assemblyman Mayor Adam Yii, the leader of the branch, has reflected on SUPP journey in the constituency, a path marked by significant setbacks due to several election defeats, but ultimately rewarded with a hard-won victory in 2021.

“The success was achieved through relentless resilience and the loyalty of party members who never wavered, even during difficult times.

“Yet, true to SUPP’s spirit, we remain humble in victory and undeterred in defeat. Our 2021 success has only deepened our awareness of the responsibilities we bear, and we will press forward with the same resolve, serving the people and progressing steadily,” he said in chairing the meeting for the executive committee, as well as the Youth and Women’s sections of the branch today.

Yii said with the new political dynamics and heightened external pressures, it was important to uphold and secure unity and vigilance within the party.

He called upon fellow members to deepen their understanding of SUPP and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) policies, as well as the need for strategic thinking and political education to navigate these turbulent times.

He also cautioned that external forced might attempt to exploit Sarawak’s interests, and therefore, stressing the urgency of standing firm in defending the state’s rights and resources.

“Moving forward, we need to work together, united in purpose. Only through unity, can we withstand challenges and shape a brighter future,” he said.

Yii also called upon members of the Youth and Women’s sections to strengthen their political education and enhancing their insights to avoid being swayed by external public opinion and emotions.

“Especially the youths, they must remember that rationality and calmness are key to establishing our presence in the political arena.

“Only by making judgements based on a deep understanding can our decisions truly align with the needs and interest of the people of Pujut.

“The Youth wing is the source of vitality within our party and represents the hope for the future of both party and the people,” he said.
