KUCHING (Feb 14): Officers and staff of the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) have been urged to internalise integrity, professionalism and a sense of urgency in carrying out their daily responsibilities.

Making the call, NREB Controller of Environmental Quality Datu Jack Liam emphasised the importance of embracing the core values of the Sarawak civil service — integrity; kindness and care; professionalism; sense of urgency; esprit de corps; teamwork; and results-oriented performance.

In his keynote address at the board’s 32nd anniversary celebration on Friday, he also outlined the NREB Strategic Plan 2025–2030 as a guiding framework for the agency’s direction and actions.

According to an NREB statement, other matters highlighted included the implementation of new initiatives approved during the NREB Senior Management Meeting (SMM) for the 2026 Annual Plan, the use of the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) Scorecard to measure organisational performance, and the setting of KPIs to drive transformation, innovation and agency recognition.

Plans for NREB’s 2026 programmes were also announced.

The ceremony, held at the lobby of Menara Pelita, was attended by staff from NREB headquarters as well as heads of NREB offices statewide.

During the event, personnel reaffirmed their commitment to integrity-based work practices through the Corporate Integrity Pledge of the Natural Resources and Environment Board Sarawak and renewed the signing of the Integrity Pledge and Integrity Pact.

The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the anniversary, symbolising the organisation’s achievements and journey over more than three decades in fulfilling its entrusted mandate.
