UPM Bintulu explores collaboration with Chinese counterparts

BINTULU: A delegation from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus recently visited universities in the province of Nanning, Guangxi to explore potential cooperation, short-term mobility and the promotion of postgraduate programmes.

The visit was led by Associate Prof. Dr. Wong Tze Jin, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Management, and Science.

According to Dr. Wong, it was aimed at introducing UPM Bintulu Campus as a higher education institution that focuses on agriculture, in line with agricultural vocational education.

“Discussions with the universities not only provide exposure to vocational education in Nanning, but also open up opportunities for Malaysia as a postgraduate education destination for students there,” he said.

In addition, the delegation also held a discussion on a short-term mobility programme that will increase the visibility of the campus.

“UPMKB always supports efforts to drive collaboration between international higher education institutions to support Sarawak’s aspirations to become a respected higher education hub globally,” said Dr Wong.

During the visit the delegation also emphasised UPM’s focus as a university dedicated to food security, especially in increasing agricultural productivity and innovation.

Among the universities visited are Guangxi Vocational University of Agriculture, Nanning Vocational and Technical University (NVTU), Nanning University, Guangxi Minzu University, and Guangxi University of Finance and Economics (GXUFE).

The delegation comprised Dr. Alvin Lim Teik Zheng from the Department of Science and Technology, Faculty of Humanities, Management, and Science, as well as Muhammad Syafiq Farhan Boo Omar Boo, Head of Mobility Section, Putra International Center (i-PUTRA), UPM.
