Villager dies after falling from wooden crossing over Lawas stream

MIRI (Aug 13): A man was killed after he fell from a wooden crossing into a stream behind his orchard in Kampung Long Tuma, Lawas this morning.

The deceased has been identified as 56-year-old Ricky Siring.

Lawas fire station chief Azman Ibrahim said they received a distress call on the incident at 8.38am.

“Upon receiving the call, a team of personnel from Lawas fire station led by myself rushed to the scene.

“When we arrived, the team went straight into the stream to remove the body. He was pronounced dead by paramedics from Lawas Hospital,” Azman said.

He said Ricky had gone to the orchard behind his house to collect fruits.

While walking on the wooden crossing, Ricky is believed to have slipped and fallen into the stream.

Azman said Ricky was carrying a large basket with him when the incident occurred.

He said Ricky’s son found him unconscious at around 7.40am.

“The body has been handed over to police for further action,” he added.

The operation ended at 10.20am.
