Chiew says the areas of legal advice to be offered include matters related to CP500 taxation; estate administration and wills; divorce and child custody; tenancy and property ownership; as well as cases involving harassment, defamation and minor criminal offences.

MIRI (Jan 9): The Miri Parliamentary Service Centre is hosting a free legal advice programme tomorrow (Jan 10) as part of its continued efforts to enhance public access to justice and promote greater legal awareness.

Miri MP Chiew Choon Man said the initiative is aimed at providing the public, particularly residents within the parliamentary constituency, with access to initial legal advice from qualified lawyers at no cost.

“The programme is intended to help the public better understand their legal rights and obligations, while also preventing legal issues from escalating or becoming unnecessarily prolonged,” he said in a statement.

Chiew, who is Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, said the areas of legal advice to be offered include matters related to CP500 taxation; estate administration and wills; divorce and child custody; tenancy and property ownership; as well as cases involving harassment, defamation and minor criminal offences.

Advice on court procedures and legal documentation will also be made available, he added.

“The programme will be supported by experienced legal practitioners and is aligned with the principles of Malaysia Madani, which emphasise social justice, public well-being, and the strengthening of legal institutions.”

Due to limited capacity, Chiew advised those wishing to participate to make an appointment in advance by contacting 012-8520946.

He expressed hope that the programme would deliver tangible benefits to the public and serve as an important platform to empower the community with legal knowledge, thereby safeguarding their rights and interests.
