KUCHING (Sept 4): The What About Kuching (WAK) Festival is expected to continue to grow and become one of the main events in the state, much like the globally-known Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF), says Dato Sri Abdul Karim Abdul Rahman Hamzah.

The Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak believes this can be achieved considering that the event is now receiving an encouraging response both locally and from abroad.

“Just like RWMF, the (WAK) festival has the potential to attract 30,000 visitors throughout its three days.

“We see how it develops and I hope that WAK, with the continued support of everyone, will become one of the main events not only in Sarawak, but also in the Southeast Asian region.

“I believe it can grow since it is the only event of its kind that involves our youths by giving them the opportunity to showcase and present their talents,” he said when officiating at the ‘WAK Festival 2024 Calendar Reveal’ at The Borneo Hotel here yesterday.

This year’s WAK Festival, as it has been in the past, will be running throughout October, and is set to hold more than 200 daily events and activities in various places across Kuching.
