‘We accept his apology’, says Premier on Najib’s apology over 1MDB scandal

KUCHING (Oct 26): Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg welcomes Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s apology over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

“We accept his apology,” he said succintly during a press conference held after officiating the Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta 2024 at the Kuching Waterfront here today.

On Oct 24, Najib in a statement apologised to Malaysians on the scandal, which took place when he was prime minister and finance minister.

The statement, read by his son Datuk Mohd Nizar Najib at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, said it was issued followig his reflections during his 26 months in jail following developments in relation to the case.

Having expressed deep shock over the extent of the multi-billion Ringgit scandal, he maintained recent evidence supported his claim he did not collaborate with fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, otherwise known as Jho Low.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had also accepted his apology when met by reporters after Friday prayers at Surau Ar-Rahman at Presint 16, Putrajaya.
