MIRI (March 22): A 22-year-old local woman died in an accident when the vehicle she was travelling in collided with the rear of a pickup truck at a traffic light junction at Vista Perdana.
Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, in a statement on Sunday, revealed that the fatal road accident occurred earlier at around 3am.
He said preliminary investigations at the scene found that the vehicle in which the woman was travelling was driven by a 24-year-old local man.
“The car was heading from Permyjaya towards Miri Airport. Upon reaching the Vista Perdana traffic light along Jalan Miri-Bypass, the car is believed to have collided with the rear of a pickup truck that was waiting for the traffic light to turn green.
“The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while both the car driver and the pickup truck driver sustained injuries and were treated at Miri Hospital,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He called on members of the public who have information regarding the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting the Traffic Investigating Officer, Inspector Nor Afifah Nordin, at 019-526 4640 or 085-430 479, or by visiting any nearby police station.
He also reminded road users, especially during the festive season, to always practise careful driving and comply with all traffic regulations to avoid endangering other road users.
