Woman fined RM1,200 for assaulting employee asking for luxury car rental payment

KUCHING, Dec 4: A woman was fined RM1,200 by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to assaulting a man by pulling his hair and punching his head.

Angelisa Yong Ming Hui, 28, made the admission before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan after being charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code. If she fails to pay the fine, she faces three months in jail.

The section carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to a year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

According to the charge sheet, the accused committed the offense against a 34-year-old male victim, who is a tour agency company manager, on January 30, 2023, around 10.30am at a premises at BDC Commercial Centre, Jalan Stutong here.

The facts of the case revealed that the accused caused injury to the victim by pulling his hair and punching his head and left eye.

It is understood that the incident occurred when the victim, along with a colleague, approached the accused and her husband to request payment for the luxury car they had leased from the tour agency where the victim worked.

Furthermore, after the incident, the accused promptly paid the rent for the car in question.

During the mitigation plea, the accused who was unrepresented requested the court to impose the minimum fine.

According to the accused, she was experiencing postpartum depression during the incident, and everything felt out of control, leading her to act in such a manner. She also stated that she was provoked by the victim.

However, the accused acknowledged that this was not an excuse for her actions and expressed remorse, admitting her mistake.
