Woman, teen killed in crash with pickup truck at P-turn near Betong

KUCHING (Aug 15): A 33-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl were killed in a two-vehicle accident at the P-turn near Jalan Layar on the Pan Borneo Highway in Betong today.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said they received a distress call on the incident at 3.20pm before deploying firefighters from Betong station to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters reported that the accident involved a Perodua Kancil car and a Nissan Navara pickup truck.

There were four occupants in the Kancil. Two with unknown injuries had been taken to the Sri Aman Hospital, while the woman and the girl were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Firefighters had to extricate the body of the teen which was pinned inside the Kancil.

Two of the deceased occupants were in the Kancil, while the other two with unknown injuries have been taken to the Sri Aman hospital by ambulance.

No information was available for the pickup truck occupant(s) Bomba personnel could not locate them at the scene.

After ensuring the area was safe and clean of debris, the firefighters concluded the operation at 4.16pm.
