Wood storage facility destroyed in fire at Batu 6, Jalan Sibiyu

SIBU (Feb 14): A wood storage facility at Batu 6, Jalan Sibiyu in Bintulu was completely destroyed in a fire on Friday night.

No injuries were reported.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said in a statement that it received a distress call at about 9.55pm and immediately dispatched eight firefighters from the Bintulu fire station to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the fire was already raging and had completely destroyed the non-permanent structure,” the statement said.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze using one water line and two nozzles, with water supplied from the fire engine pump.

After battling the flames for about two hours, the fire was fully extinguished at around 11.59pm.

The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
