SIBU (Dec 26): A non-permanent residential house was completely destroyed in a late-night fire at Rumah Pinggan, Sungai Salim here on Thursday night.

Sibu Zone 4 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Andy Alie said the department received an emergency call at 11.01pm, with the first fire engine dispatched within a minute and arriving at the scene at 11.17pm.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found the house already 100 per cent engulfed in flames.

“The fire was brought under control and fully extinguished using hose lines supplied by a nearby hydrant,” he said in a statement today.

Andy added that the operation was led by personnel from the Sibu Sentral Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Sibu Sentral), with assistance from BBP Sibujaya, and was carried out using standard RECEO firefighting procedures.

“No injuries or fatalities were reported. Firefighters ensured the area was safe before concluding operations at 1.13am,” he said.

The cause of the fire and the total losses are still under investigation.
