Year-end prayers at Masjid Jamek kicks off Sarawak’s Maal Hijrah celebrations

KUCHING (July 6): A year-end and Islamic New Year prayer ceremony was held at Masjid Jamek here this evening in conjunction with the Maal Hijrah celebration in Sarawak.

The ceremony was attended by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, along with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Puan Sri Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.

The year-end prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Sarawak, Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi, followed by congregational Maghrib and Isyak prayers.

Sarawak Mufti Datuk Kipli Yassin also delivered a Maal Hijrah sermon titled “Sustainability of the Environment According to Islam” at the event.

The state-level Maal Hijrah celebration in Sarawak will continue tomorrow with a gathering at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre here, which will be attended by Wan Junaidi and Abang Johari. – Bernama
