KUCHING, Oct. 10: Youth must choose a field of study that matches the interests and needs of industry to increase employment opportunities in the future.

Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof said that the fields of engineering, science and psychology are among the important ones to meet Sarawak's future development needs.

According to him, the development of aerospace sector, artificial intelligence (AI) as well as renewable and clean energy also creates a need for specialised skills workforce.

"...projects that are programs necessary, critical to the state government now, one in engineering, one in science, one in psychology as well.

"Because the Prime Minister's future is about aerospace, we want to send satellites, we're talking about AI, we're talking about renewable energy, clean energy. We're talking a lot of things that are necessary for the future", he said.

He said this during a special session of YB and TPM Dialog through the Ready to Face Future Motivation Program in Kuching, on Saturday.

Fadillah also recalled that the development of AI and robotics has the potential to change the job landscape, thus demanding that young people continue to add knowledge, master new skills and adapt to changing technology.

Meanwhile, he stressed the importance of creativity and innovation in exploring new opportunities, especially in entrepreneurship and digital business.

Young people are also encouraged to identify problems and come up with solutions that potentially meet market needs.

In addition to academic achievement, discipline, self-motivation and the earnest pursuit of knowledge are also important foundations for success.

Strengthening education and skills is seen as essential to ensuring that young people are able to compete and seize employment opportunities as the economy and technology develop. -TVS
