“Sarawak Energy remains committed to merit, diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in the scholarship assessment process, aligning with our dedication to sustainable and inclusive development.

“This has resulted in a greater number of female scholars and approximately 30 per cent of the recipients come from communities near Sarawak Energy’s projects and operations with 32 students from Belaga, Bintulu, Dalat, Daro, and Kapit were among those awarded,” he said at the scholarship award ceremony held at Sheraton Hotel here today.

In addition to scholarships, recipients will have access to internship opportunities with Sarawak Energy, providing them with essential skills, experience, mentoring, and professional development to prepare for employment upon graduation.

Sharbini emphasised that 75 per cent of Sarawak Energy’s scholars have been offered employment with the organisation.

Since 2020, Sarawak Energy has also onboarded two cohorts of 71 vocational scholars pursuing Diplomas in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at Universiti Tenaga Malaysia.

“These programmes are designed to meet the needs of Sarawak Energy and the broader power utility industry,” he added.

For 2024, Sarawak Energy earmarked an annual budget of RM16 million for its scholarship programme, focused on empowering young minds and supporting educational needs across Sarawak. – DayakDaily
