SIBU: Twenty individuals were detained at eight different locations by the Sibu Enforcement Unit (UPI) of the Malaysian Immigration Department on Wednesday.   

The department, in a statement via it official Facebook page, today (Sept 12) said that acting on complaints and intelligence, inspections were conducted at several locations starting at 4.30 pm.

They added that during the operation, 69 individuals were inspected at the eight locations including factories, construction sites and commercial premises.

“All the detainees, consisting of 17 men and three women, had committed various offences, such as not having valid travel documents, overstaying, and not possessing valid passes to reside in Malaysia,” it added.

All cases involved offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“The public with relevant information is advised to report directly to the nearest Malaysian Immigration Department office or through the available online complaint channels, as listed in the comments section,” said the department.
