KUCHING (Sept 17): Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd, a bus company servicing the Klang Valley, Penang and Kuantan, has provided 25 Rapid KL buses which are fully equipped with disabled-friendly facilities for the upcoming 21st Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma), said Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.
The Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development said these facilities include ramps and wheelchair spaces to facilitate easy mobility for 260 wheelchair-bound athletes.
“We are extremely grateful to Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd. These buses will be crucial in connecting athletes from their accommodation to competition venues.
“We have arranged for their accommodation to be as close as possible to the venues,” she said after overseeing a dry run of three Rapid KL buses at Raia Hotel here today.
Fatimah emphasised that all the buses had undergone rigorous safety inspections prior to their deployment and would continue to be monitored to ensure the best quality of service throughout Para Sukma.
She also highlighted the importance of ensuring punctuality during the event.
“We don’t want any athlete to miss their competition due to transportation delays. So, all schedules and routes have been arranged to ensure clarity and ultimately, so our athlete will be able to compete according to the schedule,” she said.
In addition to the buses, the Rapid Bus Kiosk app would be implemented to offer real-time tracking of bus locations.
“This will aloow the transportation committee to track the location of the buses in real time, so we know exactly where they are,” she explained.
Alongside the 25 Rapid KL buses, another 37 buses, 79 vans, 19 SUVs, 20 cars and 10 lorries will be used to ensure smooth logistics throughout Para Sukma.
Also present were Women, Childhood and Community Development Deputy Ministers Datuk Rosey Yunus and Datuk Mohamad Razi Sitam, permanent secretary Datu Felicia Tan as well as Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Muhammad Yazurin Sallij.
The 21st Para Sukma will be held from Sept 22-28 here and involves 10 sports categories and 328 sporting events.
