Firefighters at the scene of a car–motorcycle crash in Kampung Bakol, Limbang on Feb 17, with the Proton Saga seen overturned on the road shoulder as rescue operations were carried out.

KUCHING, Feb 18: A 26-year-old man was killed while a female motorcyclist was injured in a road accident involving a car and a motorcycle at Kampung Bakol in Limbang yesterday evening (Feb 17).

According to a report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), an emergency call was received at 5.42pm, prompting a team from the Limbang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Limbang) to be dispatched to the scene, about 16 kilometres away.

“Upon arrival at 5.58pm, firefighters confirmed that the accident involved a Proton Saga car and a Honda Wave motorcycle, with the car found overturned on the road shoulder.

“A male driver, identified as Stanley Libau Anak Asing, 26, was trapped inside the vehicle,” the report stated.

Firefighters conducted a size-up before carrying out rescue operations to extricate the victim using a stretcher. He was later pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel, and his body was handed over to the police for further action.

The female motorcyclist, believed to be in her 30s, sustained injuries and was reported to be semi-conscious. She was transported by an MOH ambulance to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. — DayakDaily
