29-year-old man arrested for suspected drug peddling in Miri

MIRI (Sept 2): Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for suspected drug peddling on Saturday.

Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect, a local, was rounded up at his rented room in Sungai Baong here.

“During the arrest, the raiding team also seized drugs suspected to be Syabu weighing 6.33g. The drugs seized are estimated to be worth RM696.30,” he said in a statement last night.

He said the suspect has been remanded for four days to facilitate investigation under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

The section provides for an imprisonment of up to five years and whipping of at least three strokes, if found guilty.
