KUCHING (Aug 24): The five-year-old girl who emerged victorious in a lucky draw during the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI) Aug 17 opening ceremony received the key to her brand new Perodua Aruz car today.
During a simple ceremony, the key was handed over to her by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) director Samuel Simon, representing the Sukma XXI Sarawak 2024 organising committee as well as Deputy State Secretary (Operations) and Sukma XXI chief executive officer Datu Hii Chang Kee.
The lucky winner, Ainul Mardhiah Hirizuan, was accompanied by her parents and family during the event held at the Perodua Vendoria outlet at Hakka Avenue Estate, Jalan Datuk Amar Kalong Ningkan.
Speaking to reporters, Ainul’s mother Nor Hapisza Kawi, 33, revealed the lucky draw prize will be put to good use and that the new car would be a big help to her family.
“We only have one car, a Perodua Myvi, and that car of ours is now old too. With this new Perodua Aruz, it would make it easier for us to perform our daily tasks, such as picking up the children from school,” she said.
Hapisza, a housewife who also sells ‘ais kepal’ (ice dessert) in front of their house, expressed her gratitude to the Sukma XXI organisers for the opportunity.
Meanwhile, Samuel said the Sarawak government continues to show its commitment to appreciating sports fans and supporters in the state by offering various attractive prizes in the lucky draw held in conjunction with Sukma XXI.
According to him, the lucky draw segment is a sign of the state government’s appreciation to the community, who had given very encouraging feedback to the organisation of this biennial sport event.
“This is one of the organisers’ strategies to attract the public’s attention and encourage support for Sukma XXI,” he commented when speaking to reporters during the ceremony.
Also present was Perodua Vendoria Sdn Bhd director Pan Hai Lung.
About 40,000 visitors attended the Sukma XXI opening ceremony held at the Sarawak Stadium.
